The OUA is Canada's largest Conference of University Athletics serving 20 Members including over 9,300 student-athletes and 1,300 Coaches. In total, the OUA represents 36% of national University sport. There are 23 sport offerings including all 12 U SPORTS recognized sports.
Shining on the field and in the classroom, more than 3,000 OUA athletes earned All-OUA Academic status meaning an 80% plus average.
The OUA boasts some of the best sport facilities in Canada including Alumni Stadium in Guelph; the Toldo Lancer Centre at the University of Windsor that opened in 2022; Varsity Centre at University of Toronto; and the Fieldhouse at Carleton to name a few.
Ontario Universities Signal Major Investments in Athletics

Ontario universities are actively planning and exploring capital projects for athletic and recreation facilities, with initiatives ranging from near-term upgrades to long-term, multi-phase developments. Key priorities include turf field replacements, LED lighting upgrades for fields and gyms, and the renewal of aging infrastructure such as bleachers, floors, and arena facilities.
Several institutions reported plans for new or expanded high-performance and recreation centres, featuring sport medicine clinics, strength and conditioning spaces, multi-use gyms, fitness centre expansions, classrooms, and wellness-focused amenities. There is also strong interest in indoor facility development, including field houses, seasonal and permanent domes, indoor tracks, and rigid structures to replace end-of-life inflatable domes.
While some projects are moving forward, many remain conceptual or dependent on funding, partnerships, and approvals, reflecting a strategic, phased approach to facility development over the next several years.
